FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team took care of business at home on Wednesday night with a dominant performance over the visiting Wolverines of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. With the win, the Warriors improve to 22-3 overall this season and keep their unblemished conference record at 19-0.
Genevieve Decker put the first points on the board, getting a paint touch with a tough finish at the rim. After trading a couple of buckets, a lay-in from
Korryn Smith put the Warriors on top for good. Most of the Warriors' success early on was because of their defense, which allowed only five points in the opening ten minutes. Offensively, Decker led the Warriors in the first quarter, scoring six on the way to a 21-5 lead going into the second quarter. The Orange and Black continued to pull away in the second quarter; thanks to 11 points from
Erika Foy, Tech took a 44-23 lead into the locker room. Tech maintained control in the second half, leading the whole way without question on their way to a 76-48 win.
Erika Foy entered the night 9 points shy of the women's basketball all-time scoring record of 2,082 points, which was set in 1988 by Leila Crossley. In typical fashion, the Gas City native recorded a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds while adding 2 assists and taking yet another record for her own.
The Warriors had three others score double digits.
Korryn Smith had 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Taylor Covington had 11 points, 1 rebound, and a team-high 4 assists.
Genevieve Decker added 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Lourdes University Gray Wolves for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
