FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team celebrated their seniors on Saturday afternoon with a win 71-47 over the visiting Lourdes University Gray Wolves. Today's win completes the season sweep of the Gray Wolves, with the Orange and Black taking the first meeting 72-60 on January 17. Tech improves to 23-3 on the season and remains unbeaten in conference play at 20-0.
The Warriors were dominant on both ends of the floor in the opening quarter. Defensively, the Orange and Black forced rushed possessions and contested shots for Lourdes, holding them to 8 points. On the other end of the floor, Tech efficiently found good looks at the rim thanks to ball movement and consistent cuts, resulting in half the Warrior's baskets being assisted on their way to a 21-8 lead to end the first. In the second quarter, the Gray Wolves found more of a rhythm offensively, converting on 3 of their 4 attempts from beyond the three-point line, accounting for 9 of their 15 points. Defensively, the Warriors kept up the pressure in the second quarter, forcing 5 of the 15 Gray Wolves turnovers, but the offense stuttered as their shooting percentage dropped from 62% in the first to 28% in the second, allowing Lourdes to cut the lead to 5 heading into the midway point.
Out of the break, the Warriors got back on track and regained control. Offensively, the Warriors had an upswing, scoring 23 points, while the Gray Wolves were held to 6 points, reestablishing the Warrior's double-digit lead. The Warriors maintained control through the final frame on their way to a 71-47 win.
Erika Foy led the Warriors on offense with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Taylor Covington added 16 points, 2 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Genevieve Decker also found herself in double figures with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Defensively, the Warriors held the Gray Wolves two top scorers to a combined 0 points in the win.
The Warriors host Concordia University in their final regular season home game of the 2023-24 campaign on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
