SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team picked up their second win over the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils this season, Wednesday night on the road. The Warriors' win on Wednesday is their fourth straight over the Blue Devils and their sixteenth of their last seventeen meetings.
The Orange and Black got out of the gate quickly, opening on a 10-0 run through the first four minutes of the first quarter. The Blue Devils responded with a 10-3 run of their own to cut the Warrior lead to 3, but thanks to 17 first-quarter points from
Taylor Covington, the Warriors took a 21-12 lead into the second frame. The guests controlled the second quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 16-9 while shooting 50% from the field, taking a 37-21 lead into the break.
Tech played a clean third quarter offensively, shooting 50% from the field again, but Lawrence Tech came out of the locker room hot. Shooting 72.7% from the floor with 2 makes from beyond the arc and 5 points at the charity stripe, the Blue Devils cut the Warrior lead to single digits, outscoring them 23-15 in the third quarter. The hosts cut the Warrior lead to 5 to start the fourth quarter, but a quick 7-0 response from Tech re-established their double-digit lead. The Orange and Black lead would get cut to single digits one more time, but the Warriors took care of business in the closing five minutes, winning 75-56.
Taylor Covington led all scorers with 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists.
Erika Foy added 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Genevieve Decker posted a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Bethany Worm scored 11 points off the bench, with 1 rebound and 1 assist.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Rochester Hills, Michigan, to take on the Rochester University Warriors at 1:00 p.m.
