Game Recap: Softball | | Jack Koshko

Tech Softball Goes 2-0 on Day 2 in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. – On day two of their spring break trip down in Florida, the Indiana Tech softball team played two more games as a part of the Space Coast Games. The Warriors would take on Dordt University (Iowa) and Hannibal-LaGrange University (Mo.) winning both games.

The first game of the day against Dordt would showcase a pitching battle as there would only be one run scored in the entire game. That run would come in the bottom of the third inning from Warriors right fielder Maire Trouba who would hit a one out RBI single to drive in Kenadee Schnick, which would prove to be the game winning run. On the mound, Savannah Bravo would stay perfect on the season winning her eighth game of the year in her eighth appearance. Bravo would throw a complete game shutout against the Defenders, allowing just two hits and strikeout five batters as the Warriors would win it 1-0.

The second game of the day would feature many runs as Tech would come out on top 9-2. The Warriors would score three runs in each of the first two innings to take control of the game as the bats would come alive early. The Orange & Black would add another run in the fourth inning before the Trojans would get on the board with two runs in the fifth. However, Tech would immediately get those runs back with two more in the sixth to put the game to bed. Jayme Koning and Ella Cochenour would lead the offensive charge with two hits and two RBIs each. Makena Markle, Katie O'Drobinak, and Melissa Cabrera would also tally RBIs in the game. Cabrera would make the start on the mound for the Warriors earning the first win of her collegiate career. The freshman from Santa Clarita, California would throw a complete game, allowing four hits and two runs on 28 batters faced.

With the pair of wins, Indiana Tech improves to 13-2 overall on the season and 4-0 so far in Florida. Tech will play Indiana University at South Bend and MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) on day three of the Space Coast Games at 12:15pm and 2:30pm on Tuesday, March 12th.
