MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball team played two more games as a part of the Space Coast Games on day three of their spring break trip down in Florida taking on Indiana University at South Bend and MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) where the Warriors would win both games.
In the first game of the day, the Warriors would quickly rout the Titans of IU-South Bend with a big 10-0 victory in just five innings. Tech would kick things off with a four run first inning to take the early lead and would add another run in the second to go up 5-0. The Titans would have no answer and would only muster up two hits throughout the game. The Orange & Black would tack on five runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on multiple Titan errors, to secure the win. Jayme Koning would lead the Warriors on both sides of the ball, going two for three from the batter's box with a run scored and three RBIs, while also picking up the win on the mound. Over five innings of work, Koning would allow just two hits on her way to a shutout victory.
Game two of the day, against the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers, would take extra innings to declare a winner. The Pioneers would strike first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Bella Brock would hit an RBI double to left field in the top of the fourth to bring in Jayme Koning to tie the score at 1-1. With neither side able to grab another run in regulation, the game would head to an eighth inning where Tech would break the deadlock. Brooke Hughes would give the Warriors the lead with an RBI single to right field that drove Katie O'Drobinak home. On the mound, Koning would earn her second victory of the day, throwing a complete game in both. Against the Pioneers, Koning would allow eight hits and just one run in a tight contest, while striking out five batters.
The Warriors improve to 15-2 overall on the season and 6-0 in Florida. Tech will play Montreat College (N.C.) and Cornell College (Iowa) on day four of the Space Coast Games at 12:15pm and 2:30pm on Wednesday, March 13th.
