Warriors Drop Both Games on Day Four in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. – On day four of the Space Coast Games, the Indiana Tech softball team played two more games against Montreat College (N.C.) and Cornell College (Iowa) where the Warriors would fall for the first time in Florida, dropping both games.

In game one against Montreat, the Cavaliers would take the lead right out of the gate, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Warriors would counter with a run of their own in the bottom of the first on an Alyssa Fox RBI single up the middle. Tech would still trail by two heading into the fourth inning, when Kenadee Schnick picked up an RBI single that would bring the Warriors within one. After Schnick stole second base, Maire Trouba would hit an RBI single to bring Schnick home and tie the game at three. The next three innings would go scoreless forcing extras. The Cavaliers would take the advantage in the inning, scoring on two sacrifice bunts to take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the eight. The Warriors would be unable to score as they fall for the first time in Florida. Trouba would lead the Tech offense going three for four with a run scored and RBI. Savannah Bravo would earn her first loss of the season for the Warriors, throwing a complete game and allowing five runs, but only three earned runs, and six strikeouts.

The Warriors would play Cornell College in the second game of the day in another tight contest. Kaelie Kugler would put Tech on top 1-0 in the second inning on an RBI single to right field. Savannah Bravo would start the game on the mound for the Warriors, coming off the heels of her eight-inning performance in the previous game. Bravo would go two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four batters. Melissa Cabrera would come in to relieve Bravo, pitching the last five innings. Cabrera would allow six runs, but only one would be earned after four Warrior errors would cost Tech in this one. Cabrera would strikeout two batters and allow four hits in the loss. Trailing 5-1 heading into the fifth inning, the Warriors would attempt a comeback, scoring three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie it up at five. Jayme Koning, Maire Trouba (2), and Alyssa Fox would pick up RBIs to bring the Warriors level. However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Cornell would score a run to walk it off, taking the game 6-5.

The Warriors fall to 15-4 overall on the season and drop to 6-2 in Florida. Tech will play Columbia International University (S.C.) and RV Missouri Baptist University on the final day of their spring break trip at 10am and 2:30pm on Thursday, March 14th.
