SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team is moving on to the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament after winning the Siloam Springs bracket by defeating the hosts, John Brown University, in a defensive-heavy matchup, 52-43. This is the Warriors' first appearance in the round of sixteen since the 2018-19 season.
It wasn't an ideal start for the Warriors in the opening quarter, as they quickly found themselves trailing the Golden Eagles, entering the second quarter down 14-7 on the scoreboard. The hosts continued to push in the opening five minutes of the second quarter, stretching their lead to double-digits and taking a twelve-point lead with 4:59 left in the half. Trailing 9-21, Tech began the climb back into the game as they closed out the final five minutes of the second quarter with an 11-2 run, which saw John Brown's lead shrink to 23-20 heading into the midway point.
The Warriors continued their run out of the locker room, scoring the first four points of the frame to take their first lead since they led 2-0 to start the game. After trading buckets and the lead a few times, a baseline drive from
Juliana Burris put the Warriors back on top for good.
Taylor Covington chipped in two of her three triples in the closing 3 minutes of the third quarter to help the Warriors establish a 39-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Tech kept the pressure on the hosts in the final frame, stretching their lead to nine with 5:19 left in the game. The Golden Eagles cut the Orange and Black's lead to three with just over two minutes to go, but the Warriors made their free throws down the stretch and held on as they punched their ticket to the round of sixteen with a 52-43 victory.
Erika Foy was crucial for the Warriors, pouring in a game-high 23 points and was a rebound short of the double-double with 9.
Juliana Burris added 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Taylor Covington was the other Warrior in double-figures with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The Warriors advance to face Briar Cliff at the Tyson Events Center on Friday, March 22, in Sioux City, Iowa, at 8:00 p.m. CT.
