FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team took a break from conference action on Thursday afternoon as they welcomed Trinity Christian College for a doubleheader. The Orange and Black took care of business, winning game one 4-2. Game two took an extra inning, but the Warriors came out on top, 6-3.
Picking up where she left off last week,
Katie O'Drobinak drove in the Warrior's first run with a double off the right field wall in the bottom of the first inning. In the next at-bat,
Alyssa Fox one-upped O'Drobinak with an RBI triple to put Tech up 2-0. The Trolls didn't take long to respond as they scored a run in the top of the second to cut Tech's lead in half. Tech plated another run in the bottom of the second to reestablish a two-run lead.
Maire Trouba found the hole in the right side of the infield to extend the Warriors' lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning. A long ball from the Trolls cut the Warriors lead to two, but that was all the offense the visitors could muster as Tech held on to win 4-2.
Savannah Bravo was credited with the win for Tech, throwing the complete game. She allowed eight hits and one run and struck out four.
The Trolls started things in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the first frame. Tech lessened the damage with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first, but the Trolls maintained their lead. After three scoreless innings, the Warriors finally took their first lead of game two in the bottom of the fifth. Trouba had a 2 RBI single to left center, putting Tech up 3-2. The Warriors' lead was short-lived as the Trolls knotted the game in the sixth inning, which would end up forcing extra innings. After
Jayme Koning held the Trolls scoreless in the top half of the eighth inning,
Brooke Hughes and
Maire Trouba found their way on base. Coming in to pinch hit,
Kyla Collins ended the game with a three-run shot to dead center field to complete the sweep. Koning picked up the win, throwing the complete eight innings while allowing three runs and five hits while striking out three.
Up next, Tech hosts Cornerstone University on Saturday for a WHAC doubleheader and senior day starting at 1:00 p.m. at Warrior Park.
