FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team hosted Lourdes University for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Tech came up short in game one as the Gray Wolves prevailed in extra innings 15-11. The Warriors got their revenge in game two, winning 15-8.
In game one, the Warriors were on the board first as
Luke Huerta took home on a wild pitch, giving Tech a 1-0 lead. The second inning was big for the visitors, though, as the Gray Wolves brought in seven runs, taking their first lead. Lourdes would stretch their lead, 9-1, in the third with two more runs scored. The Warriors pulled two back in the fourth and matched the Gray Wolves in the fifth with one run apiece. The visitors added one more run in the sixth to take an 11-4 lead. Tech's offense rallied for seven runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning, leveling the score. After a scoreless seventh inning, the game went to extra innings. Neither side could find the game-winner in the eighth, but Lourdes plated four runs in the top of the ninth, which would be enough to secure the win.
Ben Morrison led the Warriors with 3 RBIs, with two hits in four at-bats.
The Warriors offense came out hot in game two, scoring four runs in each of the first three innings. Lourdes's offense was also active in those frames, but Tech was leading 12-7 after three. The Gray Wolves drove in one more run in the fifth inning, but Tech scored three in the sixth to put the game out of reach and claim it 15-8.
Christian Mojica led the Warriors in RBIs with four, all of which came from a grand slam hit in the third inning.
Coley Stevens was credited with the win on the mound, allowing one hit and one run while striking out nine in four and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday and Sunday as they host Aquinas College for a four-game series beginning at 1:00 p.m. on both days.
