SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indian Tech men's volleyball team earned a spot in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament on Friday evening. After going to five sets and splitting the regular season meetings, Tech downed the No. 2 seeded Cornerstone Golden Eagles in three straight sets to advance.
The Warriors found themselves trailing in the early stages of set one as the Golden Eagles had established and maintained a four-point lead. A short run from the Warriors cut Cornerstone's lead to just one, and after trading points, a 4-0 run from Tech gave them their first advantage, 17-15. The set remained tight in the closing stages, but the Warriors took it 25-22. Tech was hot to start the second set, as a 5-0 run saw them grab an early lead. The Orange and Black stretched their lead to as much as seven, leading 22-15. A late 4-0 push from the Golden Eagles was halted by the Warriors as they took the second set 25-19. The third set featured many ties, but Cornerstone maintained the lead through the set's opening. A 4-0 run from the Warriors leveled the set at fourteen, and shortly later, Tech held the advantage, 18-17, for the first time since leading 1-0. Cornerstone leveled the set at eighteen, but Tech went on a 7-3 run to claim the set 25-21 and advance to the final.
Mason Milan led the attack with fourteen kills and one ace.
Daynte Stewart chipped in an ace, while
Jon Fonda led the side with four blocks.
Armaan Dosanjh distributed the ball, recording thirty assists. Stewart led the squad in digs with fourteen.
The Warriors matchup with the No. 5 seeded Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech in the WHAC Tournament Final on Saturday evening. The Final starts at 6:00 p.m. in Sylvania, Ohio, on the Lourdes University campus.
