Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors Comeback Effort Falls Short in Five-Set Loss to LTU

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, playing host to the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech University. In the Schaefer Center, the Warriors battled tough, but their comeback effort came up just short as the visitors escaped with a narrow 2-3 victory.

The opening set was a battle through the early stages until the Blue Devils began to establish some separation with a short 4-0 run. The run gave the visitors control, and they stretched their lead to seven, 17-10. The Orange and Black refused to go down without a fight, though, battling back to cut the lead to 23-21. Tech mustered one more point, but LTU took the set 25-22. Set two was a hint of déjà vu, as Lawrence Tech was the one to slip ahead as their lead grew to five points. Again, the Orange and Black cut the lead to two, but the Blue Devils held on to win 25-22.

Tech came out firing in the third set as an 8-0 run, led by Jacob Carrico with three service aces, put the Warriors up 10-3. Not much later, leading 12-7, the Warriors embarked on another run, this time 5-0, to take their first ten-point lead of the set. Though they battled back, the lead Tech established was too much for LTU to overcome as the Warriors took set three 25-19. After finding their footing in the third, the hosts kept it going and took a 10-5 lead to start the fourth set. Tech maintained their five-point lead until a 5-1 Blue Devil run cut it to a single point. Dylan Poore put down a kill to help the Warriors widen their advantage back to four, 20-16. Poore was also the one to end the set, 25-20, as the Warriors leveled the match at two sets apiece. Still feeling the momentum from the previous two sets, the Warriors went ahead 6-3, forcing a Lawrence Tech timeout. After trailing from the start of the set, the Blue Devils leveled the game 9-9. After a Warriors kill, a 3-0 run from the visitors to take a 12-10 lead forced a Tech timeout. Out of the huddle, Tech answered with two points to reestablish the deadlock. LTU answered the call, however, scoring three straight points to take the set 15-12 and the match.

The Warriors travel to Goshen College for their next contest on Tuesday, April 9th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
