LIMA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech softball team traveled to Lima, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon to take on the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers. Heading into the contest, the Racers had a share of first place in the WHAC standings, but Tech didn't shy away, stealing game one 6-0 before falling in game two 4-6.
In the opener, Tech broke the deadlock with a four-run second inning.
Maire Trouba added three RBIs to her season total with a base-clearing triple to right field with two outs. That brought
Alyssa Fox to the plate, who found the gap in left-center to score Trouba from third. After the big second inning, the Warrior's offense was stationary until a double from
Kennedi Sullivan scored Trouba in the top of the seventh inning.
Melissa Cabrera stepped in the box next and hit an RBI single to center field.
Savannah Bravo picked up the win in the circle, blanking the Racers. Bravo allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out four of the 23 batters she faced.
In game two, the hosts did all of their damage in the first two innings as they scored three runs in each frame.
Bella Brock finally got Tech on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a single to right that scored Sullivan. Still in the fourth,
Grace Butcher hit a sacrifice fly into foul territory, which scored Brock from third. Trouba picked up another extra-base hit and RBI on the day with a double to left, cutting the Racers lead in half. Tech added another run in the top of the sixth, as
Amanda Parker drove in
Brooke Hughes, but the comeback effort came up short as the Warriors fell 4-6.
The Warriors host the Cleary Cougars for a conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
