FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech Esports team hosted the 2024 WHAC Overwatch and League of Legends Tournaments over the weekend, that saw the Warriors finish second place in Overwatch and third place in League of Legends. The Warriors would finish the 2023-24 season as WHAC Runner-Up, placing second overall by just one point in the final standings behind Siena Heights.
The Warriors, headed by WHAC Coach of the Year
Jake Middleton, came into the Overwatch WHAC Tournament on Saturday as the #1 seed after a prefect 7-0 regular season. The Warriors would battle #8 seed Aquinas in the quarterfinal round, defeating the Saints 3-0 (best of five series), before taking down #4 seed Lawrence Tech 3-0 in the semifinal round (best of five series). In the championship match, the Orange & Black would take on #2 seed Cleary University in the best of seven series, where the Cougars would get the better of the Warriors, winning 4-0, as Tech would finish runner-up.
Carter Frink would earn WHAC First Team honors, while
Gavin Benenati would make the Second Team for the Warriors for their play throughout the Overwatch season.
On Sunday, Tech would host the League of Legends WHAC Tournament, where the Warriors entered the tournament as the #3 seed after a 5-2 regular season. Tech would take care of business in the quarterfinal, defeating #6 seed Lawrence Tech 2-0 (best of three series), but would fall in the semifinals to #2 seed Siena Heights in a close 2-1 (best of three series) victory for the Saints. The Warriors would move on to the Bronze Match where they would take the contest over #5 seed Concordia 2-0 (best of three series) to finish in third. Aquinas would win the Grand Championship match over Siena Heights to be crowned WHAC Champions.
Hein Le would be named to the WHAC First Team, while
Jarod Barber and
Adam Rein would make the Second Team for the Warriors for their play throughout the League of Legends season.
Siena Heights would win the overall 2023-24 WHAC Esports Championship Trophy, edging out Indiana Tech by just one point, 20-19. Cleary would finish third with 15.5 points. The overall champion was determined by a combination of the three games (Rocket League, Overwatch 2, and League of Legends) played based on placement in each game conference tournament. The point scale used was 8 points for first place, 7 points for second place, and so on. For ties, points were distributed equally between tied teams.
Indiana Tech wraps up their 2023-24 season with a 23-7 overall record, going 11-5 in Rocket League, 7-0 in Overwatch, and 5-2 in League of Legends.
