ADRIAN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech Esports team traveled to Adrian, Michigan for the two-day WHAC Tournament hosted by Siena Heights University, where the Warriors would compete in League of Legends, Valorant, and Overwatch 2.
The Warriors would start the weekend competing in League of Legends where they came into the tournament as the #1 seed after an undefeated regular season. They would earn a first-round bye and roll over #5 seed Siena Heights 2-0 in the semifinal but would be stunned by #2 seed Rochester Christian in the finals falling 2-3 in the best of five match.
For Valorant, the Warriors would finish the regular season as the #7 seed and have to compete in the play-in tournament, where they defeated #10 seed Lourdes 2-0, #6 seed Bethel 2-0, and #5 Saint Xavier 2-1 to earn the top spot of the two advancing into the championship bracket. However, Tech would fall in the first round to #4 seed Cleary, dropping to the fifth-place match where they would again meet Saint Xavier and would again take down the Cougars 2-1.
The Orange & Black would enter the Overwatch 2 tournament as the #2 seed, earning them a first-round bye. Tech would defeat #3 seed Saint Xavier 3-2 in the semifinal but would be denied the title falling to #1 seed Siena Heights in the final.
Overall, the Warriors would finish in second place with 24 total points on the year, receiving six points from Rocket League in the fall (3rd Place), seven points for League of Legends (2nd Place), seven points for Overwatch 2 (2nd Place), and four points for Valorant (5th Place). Siena Heights would be crowned WHAC Champions with 29 points.
The Warriors would be well represented in the WHAC All-Conference teams with nine players earning WHAC honors.
Hein Le (BO) would be named WHAC League of Legends Player of the Year and WHAC First Team All-Conference, while
Jacob Geething (Banditboy),
Jarod Barber (Raid Boss), and
Ethan Dominy (Ping) would also all be named to the WHAC First Team. Tech would have two players earn WHAC First Team All-Conference for Overwatch 2 in
Carter Frink (m2skyy) and
Dylan Somers (HerrMiggins), and two players earn WHAC Second Team All-Conference in Parker Duggan (PDuGGy) and
John Chouiraf (Fluffy).
Matt Osborn would be named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team while nine Warriors would make the WHAC All-Academic Team, including
Jarod Barber,
Micah Carlson,
John Chouiraf,
Gage Fabish,
Jacob Geething,
Miller Hoeksema,
Joseph Ice,
Hein Le, and
Parker McKenzie.
The Warriors will finish the full year WHAC slate with an overall record of 34-13. With WHAC action out of the way, the Warriors will get set for their final two tournaments, the Great Lakes Esports Conference Championship for Overwatch 2 and Rocket League on April 12th and 13th and the Great Lakes Esports Finals for Rocket League and Valorant on April 19th and 20th.
