FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team returned to action on Friday evening by hosting Cornerstone University after a short hiatus from conference play. The Orange and Black carried over the momentum they gained from an undefeated Liz tournament to down the Golden Eagles in four sets.
Set one proved to be a battle for the Orange and Black, as neither side was willing to surrender an inch. After matching each other step-for-step through multiple set points, back-to-back kills from
Amelia Schultz and
Katie Gostovich put the Warriors on course to take the set 31-29. Tech used set one as fuel for the second set as they won the race to double-digits, claiming a 10-6 lead. The Orange and Black continued to control the set by continuously scoring in pairs. Up 19-14, a 4-0 run by Tech put the set to rest as the Warriors went on to claim it 25-15.
The Golden Eagles flipped the script on Tech in the third set, as the visitors were the ones who jumped to an early 10-5 lead. Tech battled back, bringing the score within one point multiple times, but was never able to find the much-needed leveler, resulting in a 25-20 win for Cornerstone. The Warriors again found themselves in a less-than-ideal situation as the Golden Eagles grabbed an early advantage, but the determination from the Warriors kept the visitors in check. A 4-0 run from the hosts saw their first lead of the set, 14-13. After trading a few punches, a kill from
Taylor Sorg sparked an 8-0 run, which saw the Warriors catapult to a 25-18 fourth-set win to claim the match.
Taylor Sorg led the Warriors' attack with 14 kills while also proving to be a force at the net with a game-high 6 blocks.
Katie Gostovich led the side with 3 aces.
Sara Gomperts added 44 assists to her season tally to lead the Warriors, while
Madison Mayes held down the back row with 23 digs.
The Warriors move to 8-6 on the season, and 2-0 in WHAC play and return to the court on Saturday afternoon as they host the No. 12 ranked Saints of Aquinas College in the Schaefer Center at 2:00 p.m.
