FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Saturday, the Indiana Tech women's soccer team held its senior day game, against Siena Heights University, to honor their six seniors,
Ursula Romero,
Abbie Hulme,
Catherine Harold,
Olivia Sherman,
Alina Garcia, and
Kendall Scribner.
With senior day festivities out of the way prior to kickoff, a spirited Warriors side would come into the game looking to get a good result to give to the seniors against a very tough Saints team. When these sides met last season, the game would come down to the final seconds, so a good game was surely in store for today's contest as well. In the first half, Siena Heights would have a major shot advantage over Tech, but would lack many high-quality chances, meanwhile senior
Abbie Hulme would hit the crossbar twice in the first 45 minutes, threatening to put the Warriors ahead. However, the score would remain tied at zero at the halftime whistle.
The action would pick up quickly in the second half with freshman and Fort Wayne native,
Nin Way scoring for the Warriors after a great effort to get on the end of an incredible cross into the box from
Jocelyn Alfonso. The Saints would tie it up a few minutes later, converting a penalty kick to make it 1-1. In the 78
th minute,
Meddy Masiga would score a beautiful go-ahead goal into the top corner for the Warriors that looked to be the winner, but with just over four minutes left in the game, Siena Heights would find their second equalizing goal of the game to deny the Warriors a win on senior day. Tech would still manage to earn a draw and pick up a point in the contest as it finished 2-2.
All six seniors would start in the contest for the Warriors and provide meaningful contributions in the game.
Abbie Hulme and
Alina Garcia would control the midfield for the Warriors while on the pitch, playing a combined 121 minutes and totaling three shots.
Olivia Sherman would play a full 90 minutes at center back and make multiple game saving tackles as she has done all season, while
Kendall Scribner and
Catherine Harold would provide a spark of energy over 54 minutes that helped fuel the Warriors on both sides of the ball.
Ursula Romero would arguably have the biggest impact in the game out of everyone on the field as she put up a career high 12 saves between the posts. The senior from Houston, Texas would play the full 90 minutes and kept the Warriors in the game time and time again with multiple highlight reel saves in net.
With the tie, the Warriors move to 2-6-3 overall on the season and 1-2-2 in WHAC play. The Orange & Black will host the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday, October 2
nd at 6pm.
