FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team hosted the Lourdes University Gray Wolves on Saturday afternoon in the Schaefer Center, where the Orange and Black took care of business in four sets to top the visitors.
The opening set took a little time for the two sides to settle in, as the early stages were level. The hosts established the first sustainable lead on the back of a 5-0 run featuring two service aces from
Noelle VanOort to take a four-point lead. The Warriors maintained that lead and extended it to six before closing the set with a 25-19 victory. The second set had a similar beginning to the first, with the Warriors taking a four-point lead, but the scrappiness of the Gray Wolves would not go unchecked. The visitors quickly turned the set around, turning a four-point deficit into a three-point lead. Tech battled back, but a 3-0 run to close the set from the visitors lifted them past Tech 29-27 to level the match. The Warriors took a while to get things rolling in the third set as they found themselves trailing 8-3 early, forcing a timeout from
Matt Fishman. A 4-0 run from the hosts brought the score back within two, 13-11. Not too much later, the Warriors saw their first lead of the set as a 6-0 run put them up 19-15. Once taking control, the Orange and Black refused to let the Gray Wolves back into the set, taking the third 25-20. The fourth set was controlled by the Warriors from start to finish as they never trailed en route to a 25-21 victory to take the match 3-1.
Noelle VanOort led the Warriors with 14 kills and 3 aces.
Hannah Teich led the team with 7 blocks.
Sara Gomperts contributed 38 assists, and
Kassidy Boener posted 12 digs.
Tech now sits at 12-7 overall and 6-1 in conference. The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, October 2, by hosting Concordia University for a WHAC matchup at 7:00 p.m.
