Men’s Soccer Picks Up First Win of Barker Era

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team picked up another milestone on Wednesday night in a match against Huntington University. The Warriors would secure their first win under first year head coach Keelan Barker with a 1-0 victory over the Foresters.

The NAIA coaches' ninth ranked team in the country would come out strong on their home turf to start the game. The Warriors dominated possession and created some quality scoring chances, registering six shots in the half. Despite not controlling the game, Huntington would probably have the best chance of the half with a glancing header just wide of goal. The game would enter halftime tied at zero. Tech continued to control the tempo early in the second half and won a throw in in the attacking third. Graduate student Tramaine Lawson would launch a long throw into the box that was headed away by a Forester defender right back in Lawson's directon. The defender from Nuremberg, Germany would run back into play and headed a lofted ball toward goal over the goalie's head and into the back of the net to put the Warriors up 1-0 in the 50th minute of play. The Warriors would dictate the pace throughout the remainder of the half until the final ten minutes. Huntington would go all out attack trying to find a late equalizing goal, but the Orange & Black were able to fight off every attack they faced and earn their first win of the season under Coach Barker. Tech would still manage to outshoot Huntington in the second half eight to six and 14 to 9 overall in the game with senior forward Mark Mc Daid leading the way with five shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Kyriakides would earn his first start of the season, making three saves and picking up a massive 1-0 shutout victory for the Warriors!

Tech improves their overall record to 1-1-1 now on the season and will play one more game before beginning conference play. The Warriors will host No. 13 ranked Grace College at Warrior Athletic Field in a battle of top 15 teams on Saturday, September 7th at 4pm.
