FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team geared up for a top 15 showdown on Saturday evening as the No. 9 ranked Warriors hosted the No. 13 ranked Lancers of Grace College at Warrior Athletic Field.
Both sides have gotten off to a slow start this season and would be hungry for a win. Intensity was high from the kickoff as both sides would come in ready to go with a huge potential win on the line. The first 15 minutes of game was very hectic with long balls flying back and forth all over the pitch as both sides attempted to settle in to the game. As the tensions cooled throughout the half, the game would start to open up a bit as chances started to come. Tech would come close in the 28
th minute, hitting the crossbar following a set piece. However, both teams would fail to score as the match would stay 0-0 at the break. The second half would follow suit as both sides would have spells of possession and control of the game but would fail to create that final play. The game would end in a 0-0 draw with both sides disappointed not to get the win. A draw may have been deserved as the game was fairly evenly matched throughout. Both teams would finish with eight shots in the game with
Alex Mihov leading the way for Tech with three.
Alex Kyriakides would pick up his second straight shutout in his second straight start for the Warriors, making five saves in the process.
Tech now sits at 1-1-2 overall on the season as they wrap up the nonconference slate. The Warriors will now have a week with no games to prepare for WHAC play in a pivotal conference opener against Aquinas College. The matchup showcases the WHAC's top two sides from last year as a win here will be crucial in the conference title race. The battle is set for Saturday, September 14
th at 1pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
