FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #13 ranked Indiana Tech Men's hockey team swept Rochester Christian University this past weekend winning both games in the two-game series, 13-2 on the road on Friday, and 8-0 at home on Saturday. With the pair of wins, the Warriors would clinch their fifth straight WHAC regular season title with six conference games still remaining. Tech sits at 18-0-0 in WHAC play and 20-2-0 overall.
In game one,
Ryan Doucette opened the scoring late in the first (18:27), assisted by
Alex Arnold and
Ian Vannelli. Doucette would complete a hat trick with two goals in the third (15:35, assisted by Arnold and
Pavel Svoboda; and 11:15, assisted by
Sebastian Potter).
Austin Sawyer scored at 15:53 in the second, set up by
Ethan Dominy and
Isaiah Gagerman.
Michael Dalaly netted two goals in the second period (14:08, assisted by
Alex Carrothers and Arnold; and 4:01, assisted by Doucette and
Bobby Hathcock).
Alex Arnold tallied two goals (11:39 in the second on the power play, assisted by
Malik Ali and Doucette; and 1:33 in the third, assisted by
Joey Mocnik and
Aidan Dufort) while also contributing three assists in the game. Dufort scored at 11:01 in the second (assisted by
Luke Anderson) and added three assists as well. Svoboda found the back of the net at 5:49 in the second period (assisted by Dufort), while
Connor Funke scored shorthanded at 1:07 in the second, assisted by
Brandon Plummer and
Brodie Haylock to make it 8-1 with one period left to play. In the third,
Malik Ali scored at 17:03 (assisted by Carrothers), and
Sebastian Potter netted at 14:28 (assisted by Ali and Mocnik). Rochester's goals were 6:43 in the second, and 15:49 in the third on the power play as Tech would win this one 13-2 on the road. Goaltender
Brodie Haylock played a total of 60 minutes in goal and saved 21 shots for the Orange & Black.
In game two,
Pavel Svoboda opened the scoring at 9:38 in the first, assisted by
Isaiah Gagerman. Shortly after,
Alex Arnold doubled the lead at 13:53, with assists from
Michael Dalaly and
Aidan Dufort. The second period saw the Warriors extend their lead as Doucette scored twice (5:39, assisted by Arnold and
Sebastian Potter, and 11:26, assisted by Arnold and Dalaly).
Ethan Dominy added another goal at 13:32, set up by
Austin Sawyer and
Luke Anderson. Doucette completed his second hat trick of the series early in the third period (9:23) with assists from
Ian Vannelli and Dufort. Dalaly struck at 11:36, assisted by
Joey Mocnik and
Alex Carrothers, and Mocnik closed out the scoring at 18:32, assisted by
Joey McCreadie and Dalaly. Goaltender
Ian Kangas played a total of 60 minutes, saving a total of 10 shots, and earning a shutout as Tech would win 8-0.
The Warriors are back in action next weekend for another two-game series, as #11 ranked Maryville University travels to Fort Wayne to play on Friday, January 24th at 7:30pm and Saturday, January 25th at 5:30pm. Both games will be at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in a top 15 match up.
