ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The #7 ranked Indiana Tech women's hockey team swept Concordia this past weekend for their first games back after Christmas break. They won 6-1 at home on Friday night, and 3-0 on the road Saturday. This moves their overall record to 15-4-1.
In game #1, INTECH set the tone early in the first period as the scoring opened at 2:50 when
Izzy Pettem-Shand buried a goal assisted by
Hailey Terpstra and
Megan Yakiwchuk, making it 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Yakiwchuk doubled the lead with a quick goal assisted by Pettem-Shand and
Halle Murray. The Warriors continued the pressure and at 15:10, Terpstra added her second point of the night, scoring on a setup from
Dakota Bowler and Murray to make it 3-0 before the first intermission. At 3:29 in the second period Pettem-Shand got her second goal of the night, assisted by
Lauren Younker, making it 4-0. Younker found the back of the net herself at 12:22, with Bowler picking up her second assist and
Sylvie Legault in on the play as well, giving the Warriors a 5-0 lead. Concordia found a spark late in the period making the score 5-1, but Tech was still up with a commanding lead. On the power play at 13:31 in the third period,
Arina Jusczak found the back of the net, assisted by Carys Wytink, restoring the 5-goal lead and getting the 6-1 victory. Goaltender
Izzy Varner played a total of 60 minutes and saved 23 shots.
In game #2,
Dakota Bowler opened the scoring in the second period, assisted by
Payton Gilmour and
Sylvie Legault. In the third,
Arina Jusczak extended the lead with a power-play goal at 17:27, set up by
Halle Murray and
Izzy Pettem-Shand. Bowler sealed the win with an unassisted empty net goal at 19:13 to finish off the 3-0 win on the road, completing the sweep. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 60 minutes, saving all 12 shots which lead to her third shutout on the season.
The Indiana Tech women's hockey team is back in action for another two-game series next weekend against Michigan-Dearborn as they play Saturday, January 18th in Dearborn (MI) and back at home Sunday, January 19th at 2pm at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse In Fort Wayne, Indiana.
