FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #7 ranked Indiana Tech Women's hockey team played #11 ranked Michigan-Dearborn this past weekend losing both games in a close battle. Tech lost 2-3 in overtime on Saturday on the road, and 0-1 at home on Sunday afternoon, dropping their overall record to 15-6-1 and to 9-3-1 in the CCWHA.
In game one, the Warriors opened the scoring on a second-period power play at 2:12 when
Halle Murray capitalized off assists from
Hailey Terpstra and
Megan Yakiwchuk. Both teams battled through a scoreless stretch before Michigan-Dearborn broke through in the third. The Wolverines tied the game at 9:16 and then took the lead to make it 2-1 for Dearborn. The Warriors responded late, as
Carys Wytinck scored with just 38 seconds left, assisted by Murray and Yakiwchuk, forcing overtime. In the extra frame, Michigan-Dearborn secured the 3-2 win at 2:44. Goaltender
Ashtyn Berthiaume played a total of 62 minutes and 4 seconds in net for Tech, saving a total of 35 shots.
In game two, the Warriors and Wolverines battled hard throughout the game, but the Wolverines found the back of the net at 16:00 in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Despite 59 combined total shots in the game, the rest of it would go scoreless as both netminders put up stellar performances. In the end, the Wolverines would secure the tight 1-0 victory. The Warriors are back in action next weekend for a big top ten match up against #3 Maryville University. They will travel to Chesterfield, Missouri to play them in a two-game series on Friday, January 24th and Saturday, January 25th.
