Women's Basketball Rolls Past Cardinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team returned to action on Wednesday evening in the Schaefer Center as they welcomed Concordia University (Mich.) for a conference contest. With a dominant opening quarter, the Warriors grabbed control, cruising to a 61-49 win to move to 16-4 on the season and 11-1 in conference play.
 
Tech got off to a hot start, opening on a 12-0 run, holding the Cardinals scoreless for over five minutes. Tech's defense kept strong to close the first frame, allowing just four points while the offense added six more to the tally to hold an 18-4 advantage heading into the second. The two sides matched each other shot for shot in the second frame, going into the halftime break with the Warriors on top 27-13. Out of the locker room, Tech retook control, extending their lead to as much as twenty in the third quarter and taking a 47-29 lead into the final ten minutes. Tech kept the pressure high in the fourth, taking their largest lead of the evening off a triple from Korryn Smith with just over five minutes left before settling for the 61-49 victory.
 
The Warriors were led by Genevieve Decker who tallied a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and one block. Taylor Covington added 15 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Juliana Burris chipped in 11 points, grabbed four boards, and led the side with five assists.
 
The Warriors hit the road for their next contest, traveling to Adrian, Michigan, for a contest with Siena Heights University on Saturday, January 25, starting at 1:00 p.m.
