ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team traveled to southeastern Michigan over the weekend for two conference contests. On Friday, the Warriors squared off with the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech in Southfield. There, the Orange and Black would outlast the hosts in five sets. On Saturday, Tech would take a trip to Rochester Hills, where they would take three straight sets from Rochester Christian to finish the weekend 2-0.
Against the Blue Devils, the Warriors would take an early lead in the opening set, leading by as many as seven points. The hosts refused to back down, battling back to eventually take the first set from the Warriors 25-21. In the second set, an early 5-0 run from Tech would give them a 6-3 lead. After that, the rest of the set was all Warriors, as they went on to win 25-17. The third set was an even fought battle; however, the hosts would benefit from two timely runs, first an 8-0 burst, which would give them a six-point advantage. The Warriors would overcome that run to lead 20-19 late in the set. The Blue Devils second timely run was to close the set, this time with a 5-0 burst; they would claim the third, 25-21. Down to their final set, the Warriors stepped up. After a level opening, an 8-1 run from the Orange and Black would get the job done, leading them to a 25-20 win, forcing a fifth set. The Warriors had a strong start to the final set, leading 7-2 early. The hosts would battle back, cutting the lead to one at the 11-10 mark, but a 4-0 run to close the set from the Warriors would give them the match.
Lauren Snyder led the Warriors' attack with 18 kills.
Hannah Teich,
Isabella Assaley, and
Kassidy Boener all served up two aces. Teich also led the side in blocks, matching
Jacqueline Allaway and
Lauren Snyder's tallies of six. Kirstin Matlack posted 37 assists, and
Emiline Wood recorded 23 digs.
The first set against Rochester Christian was an intense battle with little to separate the two Warriors. In the closing stages of the opener, while trailing 19-20, the Orange and Black would rattle off five straight points to take a 24-20 lead. The hosts wouldn't go down easy, cutting Tech's advantage to one, 24-23.
Lauren Paska would earn the final point for Tech with a kill to claim the set. Set two was again a close contest with the sides level at the 14-14 point. From there, Tech would go on a 5-1 run, which would give them the lead they needed to take the set, winning 25-21. The third set was all Tech as they would take advantage of multiple runs, leading to a 25-17 victory.
The Warriors had a widespread attack against Rochester as
Jacqueline Allaway,
Amelia Schultz,
Lauren Paska, and
Keira Hans all posted seven kills. Allaway also led the side in blocks with four. Kirstin Matlack led the Warriors in aces and assists with three and 21, respectively.
Emiline Wood tallied 11 digs.
The Warriors improve to 13-9 on the season and 6-4 in conference play. Tech returns home for their next contest, where they will host Lourdes University on Wednesday, October 8
th, with a 7:00 p.m. start.
