GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Indiana Tech men's basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday for the WHAC/CL Challenge, hosted by Cornerstone University. Tech would end the Challenge with a 1-1 record, opening the weekend with an impressive 87-74 victory over RV Spring Arbor on Friday before falling 86-70 to No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday.
Â
In Friday's win against Spring Arbor, Indiana Tech controlled the tempo early and never trailed after a strong first half.
Blake Davison led the Warriors with 23 points, seven steals, and five assists, while
Logan Beaston added 14 points, knocking down four threes. The team hit 50 percent of their shots from the field and 43.8 percent from beyond the arc, finishing with 14 threes overall.
Dallas Roberts and Brandon Northern each added 11 and 12 points, respectively, as the Warriors cruised to their second win of the season.
Â
Saturday's matchup against Indiana Wesleyan proved tougher as the Warriors struggled to match the Wildcats' inside presence. Despite 19 points from Davison and 10 points and eight rebounds from Beaston, Indiana Tech couldn't slow down IWU's Caedmon Bontrager, who posted 30 points and 22 rebounds. The Wildcats' 50-26 advantage on the boards made the difference, as Tech's comeback efforts in the second half fell short.
Â
The Warriors move to 2-1 on the young season after the split. Indiana Tech returns to action next week as they travel to Marian University on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. start.
