INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team returned to the floor on Tuesday evening with a trip to Indianapolis for a non-conference matchup with the Marian University Knights. The Orange and Black would return home with a win in hand, downing the Knights 88-79.
Tech opened the first half trading baskets with Marian but found themselves trailing 4-12 at the fifteen-minute mark. A quick 12-3 run saw Tech take their first lead of the half, but a quick response from the hosts helped them stretch their lead back to seven with seven and a half minutes left till the break. The next five minutes were all Warriors as a 17-1 run would put Tech up nine with just over two minutes to go. Tech added two more points to their lead in the final two minutes, taking a 42-31 advantage into the break.
The momentum Tech ended the first half with carried them through the second. The Warriors would maintain control through much of the second half, responding to every Marian push with timely scoring to keep the game at arm's length. Tech would stretch their lead to as much as 16 in the half, before settling for the 88-79 victory.
Branden Northern led all scorers with 22 points, adding three rebounds and one assist.
Jaxson Fugate added 20 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Blake Davison was the other Warrior in double-figures, scoring 16 points, chipping in five rebounds, and five assists.
Logan Beaston led the Warriors' rebounding efforts with a team-high 12 boards, adding nine points as well.
The Warriors move to 3-1 on the season and gear up for a contest with crosstown rival, Saint Francis, on Saturday, November 15, at 3:00 p.m.
