FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team returned to action on Tuesday evening, where they picked up a statement win, knocking off No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan 72–69 in the Schaefer Center.
After trading early baskets with the Wildcats, Tech would build a 17–13 lead after one quarter behind Covington's 10 points and steady defense that forced six IWU turnovers in the opening frame. The second quarter slowed in pace, with both sides struggling to find rhythm offensively, but timely scoring from Covington and
Jacklyn Crews helped Tech maintain control, taking a 31-24 advantage into the midway break.
The Wildcats surged back after the break, pouring in 29 third-quarter points to briefly take the lead, but the Warriors answered with clutch shooting to keep the matchup within reach. Covington hit a three midway through the fourth to cut the Wildcats' lead to one and swing momentum in Tech's favor. Trailing by five with just under two minutes to go,
Gabby Richie would score seven straight unanswered points for Tech, including a three with 25 seconds left to put Tech up 71-69. A solid defensive possession saw the Warriors force a turnover, and a free throw from
Jacklyn Crews would close the contest.
Taylor Covington paced the offense with 24 points, including six three-pointers, while adding five assists.
Jacklyn Crews provided an efficient 12 points and four rebounds off the bench, and
Gabby Richie added 10 points, knocking down two triples and dishing out four assists.
Tech moves to 2-1 on the young season. The Warriors return to action on Saturday, November 15, as they host cross-town rival, No. 8 Saint Francis, for a 1:00 p.m. game.
