Warriors Battle but Come Up Short

Fort Wayne, Ind. – No. 14 ranked Indiana Tech women's hockey battled through a two-game home series against No. 5 ranked Maryville University this weekend but ultimately fell short in both contests, dropping Game 1 by a 4–0 margin and Game 2 by a 4–2 score.

The Warriors opened Friday night's match up with solid defensive play, keeping the scoreboard locked at 0–0 through the first period. Maryville erupted for four goals in an eight-minute span in the second. Indiana Tech generated opportunities—including a power play midway through the frame—but couldn't convert despite out shooting Maryville 2–1 on the advantage. Tech continued to pressure in the third, earning another power play, but Maryville's defense held firm to secure the shutout victory. Ashtyn Berthiaume made five saves in 12 minutes in goal for the Warriors.

Indiana Tech responded with more energy and offensive rhythm in Saturday's rematch. However, Maryville struck early, scoring three times in the opening 12 minutes of the first period. The Warriors turned the momentum in the second. Allison Greene put Tech on the board at 12:31, finishing a setup from Halle Murray and Emily Harty. Just under three minutes later, Jaiden Rogers buried a goal off feeds from Payton Gilmour and Haylee Grenier, cutting the deficit to 3–2 and igniting the home crowd. Tech continued to pressure into the third period, earning multiple power-play opportunities, but couldn't find the equalizer. Maryville added an insurance goal at 7:48 to close the game at 4–2. Ashtyn Berthiaume made 48 saves in goal for the Warriors, while Rose Lennon played just under 48 minutes and made 22 saves.

Despite the results, Indiana Tech showed resiliency, particularly in game two, where the Warriors outworked Maryville for stretches and demonstrated strong puck movement on special teams. They will look to bounce back in their next match up against Eastern Michigan University on Friday, December 5th at the PSM Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
