Warriors Overcome Slow Start to Take Down Cleary

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Cleary University to the Schaefer Center for a WHAC contest. After a slow start in the opening quarter, the Warriors turned things around and downed the Cougars 70-42.
 
It was a slow start for the Orange and Black as the Cougars' zone gave the Warriors offense fits, leading to a 16-9 margin in favor of the visitors heading into the second quarter. In the second frame, the Warriors offense was able to dissect the Cleary zone, tallying 19 points in the quarter to take a 28-25 advantage into the halftime break. Out of the break, the Warriors were dominant as they continued to pick apart the Cougars defense. Led by Genevieve Decker's nine points in the third quarter, the Warriors outscored the visitors 22-7 in the frame. Tech didn't slow down in the fourth, rolling to a 70-42 win.
 
Tech was led by Genevieve Decker who posted 18 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. Juliana Burris added 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Jaidyn Gulley added 12 points, eight rebounds, and two assists off the bench. Lauren Barton led the team with 15 rebounds while chipping in eight points.
 
The Warriors are 19-4 overall and lead the conference with a 14-1 record. Tech travels to Dearborn, Michigan, for their next contest on Wednesday, February 5, with the Wolverines. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
