Warriors Survive in Double Overtime Against the Gray Wolves

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team traveled to Sylvania, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon to compete in a WHAC contest with the Lourdes University Gray Wolves. After taking the first meeting of the season with Lourdes 84-58, the Warriors squeezed by the Gray Wolves in double overtime 68-64 in their second meeting.

It was a fast start for the Orange and Black as they opened the game with a 21-9 lead after the first quarter. After the fast start, the offensive production for the Warriors slowed down as the hosts cut the lead to 30-21 heading into the midway break. The trend continued out of the break as the Gray Wolves continued to narrow the margin between the sides, ending the third with a 42-37 score favoring the Warriors. In the fourth, the hosts closed the gap completely and took their first lead of the afternoon. In the closing minute, while trailing by one, Taylor Covington hit a clutch triple to put the Warriors back up by two, but a jumper from Lourdes' Grace Ryan with 32 seconds left leveled the score to force overtime. Nothing could separate the two sides in the first overtime period, forcing another five minutes to decide the game. In double overtime, Lauren Barton's four points paced the Warriors as they outscored the hosts 10-6 in the frame to secure a 68-64 victory.

Taylor Covington led the way for the Warriors with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Juliana Burris added 16 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Genevieve Decker tallied 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Lauren Barton was a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.

The Warriors move to 22-4 on the season and sit at 17-1 in conference play. In their next contest, the Warriors will be in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Wednesday, February 19, to take on Concordia University. Tip-off with the Cardinals is set for 5:30 p.m.
