Farrell Leads Women’s Lacrosse to Big Win Over Kalamazoo in Season Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #8 Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team opened the new season with a home game against Kalamazoo college on Saturday morning, in a game the Warriors would take easily over the Hornets.

Kalamazoo would open the scoring in this one with a goal in the first three minutes of the contest, but the Warriors would immediately counter just 14 seconds later as sophomore Michelle Farrell would tie the game at one, scoring the opening goal of the season for Tech, assisted by Brook Maul. The Warriors would then rattle off five straight and end the period on a 6-1 run to take a 7-2 lead into the second quarter. Tech would pick up the first three goals of the quarter with freshman Sophia Jermstad picking up the first of her collegiate career helping the Warriors to a 10-4 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Farrell would record a hattrick of goals in just 1:48 minutes of action as Kalamazoo and Tech traded goals back and forth in a flurry of seven total goals in under four minutes of play. After things settled back down, the Orange & Black would end the period with another three-goal run to push the lead to an even ten at 17-7. The Warriors would then score the next four goals as well to start the fourth quarter with Lauren Hainlin chipping in on three of them with two goals and an assist as Tech would take down Kalamazoo 21-9 in the end. Farrell would dominate from start to finish in this one with 12 total points on six goals and six assists, which also sent her over 100 career points in just her 19th career game. Maul (six points), Da'zah Regusters (four points), and Kylie King (three points) would all score hattricks in the win, while Hainlin finished with five points on two goals and three assists. Kat Hoff would make the start in goal for the Warriors picking up the win and making seven saves in 50:53 minutes of action, while Sydney Oberdorfer played the final 9:07 minutes making one save.

The Warriors start the season at 1-0 and will play #6 Missouri Baptist University in their next game in a top ten matchup in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, February 22nd.
