FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team kicked off their postseason run on Wednesday evening, hosting the Cleary University Cougars in the Schaefer Center. With the help of a strong second quarter, the Warriors held on to win 64-60 and advance to the WHAC Tournament Semifinal.
It was a slow start to the contest for the Orange and Black as the Cougars zone caused issues for Tech, holding them to 11 points in the opening quarter, which closed favoring the visitors 13-11. The Warriors came to life in the second, opening the quarter on a 12-0 run, leading 23-13. Defensively, the Warriors were a force in the second, forcing seven turnovers and holding the Cougars to just seven points to take a 32-20 lead into the midway break. Out of the locker room, the third quarter was a battle, with the Cougars cutting into the Warriors' advantage, trailing 39-47 heading into the final quarter. In the fourth, the Cougars clawed themselves all the way back, taking the lead with 5:16 left in the game. The Warriors quickly responded with a 7-0 run to regain a five-point advantage. Tech was led by
Genevieve Decker with 18 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
Taylor Covington added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Lauren Barton posted a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Korryn Smith tallied 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
The Warriors advance to the WHAC Tournament Semifinal where they will meet the No. 4 seed, Cornerstone University, on Friday evening in the Schaefer Center. Tip-off with the Golden Eagles is set for 6:00 p.m.
