BYRON CENTER, Mich. – The #13 ranked Indiana Tech men's hockey team swept Aquinas College in a two-game series this weekend, winning 7-3 at home on Friday, and 7-2 on the road Saturday. This moves their overall record to 25-3-0 and their conference record to 22-0-0.
In game one, the scoring opened early, with Aquinas taking the lead early in the first period. The Warriors quickly equalized at 4:58 with an unassisted goal from
Bobby Hathcock, but Aquinas regained the advantage at 5:22. The back-and-forth continued as the Warriors tied it up again at 7:21 with
Sebastian Potter scoring off assists from
Francesco Santaniello and
Malik Ali. Indiana Tech then grabbed the lead at 9:15 when
Austin Buck found the back of the net, assisted by
Michael Dalaly and
Ryan Doucette. The second period saw the Warriors extend their lead at 9:43, with
Malik Ali scoring thanks to assists from
Sebastian Potter and
Alex Carrothers. Aquinas fought back early in the third period with a power-play goal at 00:33. However, the Warriors pulled away with
Brandon Plummer scoring at 2:05, assisted by
Luke Anderson and
Ian Vannelli, followed by
Alex Arnold's goal at 4:05 with help from
Michael Dalaly and
Ryan Doucette.
Austin Buck sealed the victory with his second goal of the game at 19:24, assisted by
Joey Fata, capping off the Warriors 7-3 win at home. Goaltender
Brodie Haylock played a total of 60 minutes in net, saving 15 shots in total.
In game two, the game began with Aquinas jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Warriors began their comeback late in the first with a power-play goal at 3:32 from
Alex Arnold, assisted by
Ryan Doucette and
Brandon Plummer, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Warriors tied the game in the second period at 11:15, thanks to
Pavel Svoboda's strike off a feed from
Michael Dalaly. Another power-play goal from
Alex Arnold at 7:01, with assists from
Malik Ali and
Ryan Doucette, gave Indiana Tech their first lead at 3-2. The third period started with
Aidan Dufort extending the lead to 4-2 at 16:47, assisted by
Ryan Doucette.
Malik Ali followed up with a goal at 15:24 off a setup from
Alex Carrothers to make it 5-2. The Warriors power play struck again at 14:47 as
Francesco Santaniello scored, assisted by Doucette and Dufort. Doucette capped off his performance with a goal of his own at 5:56, assisted by Carrothers, solidifying the 7-2 win for the Warriors. Goaltender
Braedyn Funke played a total of 60 minutes in goal, saving 19 shots in total.
The Warriors are back in action this weekend as they play their last regular season two-game series against Lawrence Tech, on Friday, February 14th on road in Redford, Michigan and at home on Saturday, February 15th at 7:30pm at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse when they will celebrate their senior class on senior night.
