Strong First Half Helps Send Tech to WHAC Tournament Final

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team returned to the Schaefer Center floor on Saturday afternoon for the WHAC Tournament Semifinal game, where they met Madonna University. After a strong first half, in which Tech posted 51 points, the Warriors would go on to win 95-74 to advance to the WHAC Tournament Final on Tuesday night.
 
The opening four minutes were a defensive battle, as the two sides were trying to get their footing in the contest offensively. The spark the Warriors needed came from Lucas Lyyski who splashed two triples on back-to-back possessions which would kickstart a 15-3 run and put the Orange and Black on top 19-9 with 12:17 left in the half. Once the offense caught fire, there was no slowing down as the Warriors continuously found open looks, knocking them down as they extended their lead. Led by Dallas Roberts' 11, along with Lyyski and Max Perez adding 10 apiece, the Warriors carried a 51-31 lead into the second half. In the second half, the Warriors maintained their lead, hovering around the 20-point margin, although they were able to stretch it to as much as 28 with 5:35 left, eventually settling for a 95-74 win.
 
Tech had six players surpass double digits in scoring and they were led by Dallas Roberts who posted 19 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Crew Gibson recorded a triple-double in the contest with 15 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds. Jaxson Fugate tallied 13 points, three rebounds, and one block. Lucas Lyyski added 12 points and eight rebounds. Blake Davison and Max Perez each scored 10 points, while Davison grabbed two rebounds and had one assist and Perez added an assist.
 
The Warriors improve to 23-6 on the season and will host Cornerstone University for the WHAC Tournament Final on Tuesday evening. Tip-off against the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
