Warriors Head to Round of 16 With 64-54 Win Over Stillman

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon as they continued their postseason run with an NAIA National Tournament second-round match-up with Stillman College. After upsetting the No. 3 seed in the first round, Tech again, pulled off the upset, this time over the No. 11 seeded Tigers, 64-54, advancing to the Round of 16 for the second straight year.

The Warriors found themselves trailing out of the gate as the Tigers opened the contest scoring five straight points. Tech quickly righted the ship, leveling the score at seven. The Tigers regained control, stretching their lead to five once again, but an and-one from Genevieve Decker with under a minute to go in the first quarter cut the Stillman lead to one, 17-18. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with both sides holding a lead. As the clock wound down before halftime, the Warriors found themselves with a narrow advantage, 30-28, heading into the break. The Tigers struck first out of the intermission, leveling the score but a quick bucket from Taylor Covington put Tech back on top. Tech would stretch their lead to as much as six in the frame, but the Tigers would cut that in half heading into the fourth quarter. The last ten minutes were all Orange and Black as they stretched their lead to as much as 11 before settling for the 64-54 victory to send them to the Round of 16.

Genevieve Decker led the way for the Warriors with 20 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Taylor Covington chipped in 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Juliana Burris tallied 11 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Lauren Barton grabbed a team-high nine boards and added six points.

The Warriors head to Sioux City, Iowa for the Round of 16 where they will meet the No. 2 seeded Lions of Freed-Hardeman University. The remainder of the NAIA National Tournament begins with the Round of 16 games on March 20 and runs through March 25 in the Tyson Event Center.
