Saints Spoil Senior Day in Five-Set Thriller

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's volleyball team returned to action on Friday evening, hosting Aquinas College for the Warriors' senior day. After taking the first meeting of the season, the Warriors came up just short in the second meeting, falling 2-3 in a five-set thriller.

Tech had a strong start to the contest, controlling the first set from start to finish on their way to a 25-21 win. The Warriors controlled the second set as well, but a late push from the Saints made it interesting, cutting Tech's lead to 23-24 with a 4-0 run, before Dylan Poore put an end to the set with a kill. The Saints opened the third set quickly, rolling to an early 5-1 lead. Tech battled back, taking their first lead of the set at the 10-9 mark. After trading points, a 5-1 run from the visitors put them up 24-19. With their backs against the wall, the Orange and Black fought back, leveling the score at 24, but the comeback came up short as the Saints scored back-to-back points to take the set 26-24. The fourth set was level all the way, until, while trailing 18-21, the Saints closed the set with a 7-0 run to level the match. In the fifth set, the visitors never trailed as they took the set 15-11 to complete the comeback.

The Warriors' offense was led by Kristian Kold with 19 kills and four aces. Logan Gamero led the side with four blocks. Daniel Mitsin posted a team-high 30 assists, followed closely by Nolan Bosley with 26. Jacob Carrico led the Warriors with nine digs.

The Warriors are now 10-10 on the season and 9-3 in conference play. On Saturday afternoon, the Orange and Black will welcome Cornerstone University, the country's No. 10-ranked squad, to the Schaefer Center for their next contest. The first serve with the Golden Eagles is set for 3:00 p.m.
