FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #9 Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team hosted NCAA D3 side Saint Mary's College (Ind.) in a nonconference game Thursday evening where the Warriors would ring the bell 15 times in the win.
The Belles of Saint Mary's would come out the gate with two goals in the opening four minutes of the game to shock the Warriors. After a quick timeout, Tech would settle into the game and start to take over with
Sophia Jermstad and
Michelle Farrell each scoring to tie the game at two. In the second quarter, the Warriors would rattle off six straight with Farrell picking up three straight to give them a comfortable 8-2 lead. Both sides would add one more before the half as Tech lead 9-3 at the break. The Belles would start the third quarter similarly to the first with two goals in a row to cut the Tech lead to four but
Lauren Hainlin would get it back to five for the Warriors just before the end of the third. The fourth quarter would be all Tech with a 5-0 run by five different goal scorers to close the game. Farrell would lead the Warriors with six points on four goals and two assists, while Hainlin had five points from two goals and three assists.
Gabby Hitchcock would dominate on the defensive side of the ball for the Warriors with team highs in ground balls (seven) and caused turnovers (four), while also adding one goal in the game. Freshman
Harper Ripke would score her first collegiate goal in this one, finishing with two on the day.
Kat Hoff would make ten saves in the 15-5 Warriors win.
The Warriors get back to .500 on the season, sitting at 2-2 and will have a quick turnaround as they get set to host RV Ottawa University (Kan.) in just two days on Saturday, March 8th at 12pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
