FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warrior men's volleyball team welcomed the No. 2-ranked Saint Xavier Cougars to the Schaefer Center on Friday evening in what would be their final home game of the regular season. Similar to the first time the two sides met this season, the squads were locked in an intense battle, but the Cougars came out on top, this time 3-0.
It wasn't the start the Warriors were looking for in the opening set as they found themselves trailing early. The Cougars came out firing on all cylinders and opened the contest with a 17-6 lead. The Warriors battled back to make things interesting, but were unable to overcome the early deficit, falling in the first set 19-25. In set two, the Warriors were right with the Cougars the whole way as neither side was able to create any separation. With the two sides trading points down the stretch, the deadlock was eventually broken by the Cougars as they took the second set 28-26. The third set played out like the second, as the two sides almost exactly mirrored each other in scoring. Like the second, the third set also required some extra play to determine the winner, and after a hard battle, the visitors came out on top 33-31 to claim the match.
Dylan Poore led the Warriors with 14 kills and three service aces.
Bo O'Leary,
Daniel Mitsin,
Austin Runyard, and
Kristian Kold all recorded one block in the contest. Mitsin also led the side in assists, dishing out 32.
Ben Rosenow led the Warriors in digs with nine.
Tech moves to 10-14 on the season and remains 9-6 in conference play. The Warriors wrap up their regular season with a trip to Mount Vernon, Ohio, on Saturday, April 12, for a 3:00 p.m. start with the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars.
