Warriors Sweep Saints on Senior Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Warrior softball team returned to action on Saturday, hosting Siena Heights University for a WHAC doubleheader on senior day. The Orange and Black took both ends of the doubleheader, winning 7-3 and 6-3, to give the seniors two wins in their final home series.

In the opener, the Warriors would get things started, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Saints would answer with two runs in the second, taking their first lead of the contest. The Warriors' deficit was short-lived, as they brought home three runs in the bottom half of the second, taking back the lead, this time 4-2. After a scoreless third, the Saints cut Tech's lead to one with a run in the fourth. Tech would extend their lead with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, before closing the door in the top of the seventh to win 7-3. Maire Trouba and Melissa Cabrera led Tech with multi-hit games, while Cabrera also led the side with two RBIs. Savannah Bravo picked up the win in the circle for the Warriors, throwing the complete game. During her outing, she allowed three runs on four hits and struck out eight of the 29 batters she faced.

In game two, both sides drove in runs in the first inning as Tech led 2-1 after the first. After the Saints drew level in the top half of the second, the Warriors drove in four runs in the bottom half to grab a 6-2 lead. The Saints added one more in the third, but the bats went cold on both sides from then on, as the game finished with four scoreless innings. Kiersten Delaney led the side in hits, going three for four, while Melissa Cabrera tallied three RBIs. Carlye Walter earned the complete game win in the circle, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five of the 30 batters faced.

The Warriors move to 28-12 on the season and 16-6 in conference play. Up next, Tech travels to Cleary University for their final regular season series on Wednesday, April 23, at 3:30 p.m.
