Softball Goes 3-1 on Grand Rapids Trip

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech softball team travelled to Grand Rapids, Michigan this weekend for back-to-back doubleheaders against Cornerstone University and Aquinas College on Friday and Saturday, where the Warriors would go 3-1.

On Friday, Tech would split the series with Cornerstone, dropping game one in a tight 1-0 loss and bouncing back to win game two 8-5. Kiersten Delaney and Kaelie Kugler would both record four hits with Delaney picking up one RBI and two runs scored, while Kugler had one of each. In game one, Savannah Bravo would pitch a near perfect six innings, throwing ten strikeouts and allowing just one hit and no runs. However, Cornerstone would walk it off in the bottom of the seventh as Bravo would finish the game with just three hits allowed and the one run in 6.1 innings of work. In game two, Carlye Walter would grab the win going 6.2 innings, striking out two batters, and allowing five runs and ten hits. Mallory Stinson would pitch in the seventh inning, finishing with 0.1 innings and allowing two hits.

On Saturday, the Warriors would sweep the doubleheader against Aquinas with 5-0 and 8-5 victories to finish off a good week. Kiersten Delaney would have another good day, picking up four RBIs, three runs scored, and three hits. Maire Trouba would post five hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Bella Brock and Melissa Cabrera would both pick up two RBIs in game two. Savannah Bravo would get the win in game one, throwing a seven inning, six strikeout shutout, allowing three hits. Carlye Walter would pitch six shutout innings in game two, picking up the win. Walter would finish with 7.0 innings pitched, three strikeouts, ten hits and five runs allowed. She would also pick up an RBI at the play and score a run in game one.

The Warriors now sit at 22-8 overall on the season and 10-2 in conference play. They will host Defiance College in their next doubleheader on Wednesday, April 9th at Warrior Park.
