INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The #7 Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team played the biggest game of their season on Wednesday night on the road against #9 Marian University. The Warriors would come into the game knowing a win would make them WHAC Regular Season Champions, however a loss to the Knights would put them in a three-way tie for first with Marian and Lawrence Tech University.
The Warriors would get off to a good start with a 3-0 lead after the first quarter with goals from
Lauren Hainlin and
Da'zah Regusters (2). Marian would have a strong second quarter and tied the game up at four before
Michelle Farrell gave the Warriors a 5-4 lead just before halftime. The third quarter is when the tide really began to shift into the Knights favor. Marian would score the first three goals to go up 7-5 and would ultimately win the quarter 8-4 as they led 12-9 heading into the final 15 minutes of play. The Knights would stay on the attack, scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter to jump out to a big five goal lead with eight minutes to go. Some late game heroics would draw the Warriors back into the game as Hainlin, Farrell, and Regusters all scored to bring the Warriors within two again. However, the comeback would fall short as Tech would go down 12-14 in the end.
Da'zah Regusters (5 G) and
Michelle Farrell (3 G, 2 A) would lead the Warriors with five points each, while
Noelle Ricci (2 G, 2 A) would add four. Regusters would also lead the Warriors with six ground balls, six draw controls, and five caused turnovers in a stellar performance from the Pennsylvania native.
Kat Hoff would make three saves in goal for the Warriors.
The result causes chaos in the WHAC standings as the Warriors finish the regular season at 6-1, while Marian and Lawrence Tech both sit at 5-1 with one game remaining. The Warriors defeated Lawrence Tech earlier in the season and Lawrence Tech defeated Marian, so head-to-head tiebreakers would be split, meaning the tiebreaker and WHAC Champion will be determined based on goals allowed, assuming Lawrence Tech and Marian both win their final games on Saturday. To date, Indiana Tech has allowed 46 goals, Lawrence Tech has allowed 34, and Marian has allowed 35 in conference play so Saturday's games and scorelines will be massive in determining the final conference standings.
Tech finishes the regular season at 9-3 overall and 6-1 in WHAC play and will have to wait to find out their next matchup and tournament destiny. Lawrence Tech is scheduled to play on the road at current fifth seed Bethel, while Marian is set to play on the road at current fourth seed Siena Heights.
