HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team faced off with last year's Crossroads League champion (RV) Huntington University in a road contest on Monday evening. The Warriors would score first but would ultimately end up in a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes of play.
Both sides would start off strong with a couple chances in the opening 20 minutes of play, but the keepers would keep the game level. In the 30th minute,
Gui Moreira hit the crossbar with a great shot from outside the box and moments later
Tramaine Lawson would collect the rebound and smash a left-footed shot into the top right corner from just inside the 18-yard box to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. After the goal, the Warriors would dominate the rest of the half controlling possession and not allowing Huntington to get back into the game, taking the lead into the break.
In the second half, Huntington would come out of the locker room with a new energy, controlling the start of action. The Foresters would hit the cross bar early in the half, followed by a missed rebound attempt with the Tech net empty, but the Warriors would still lead by one. However, a few minutes later Huntington would find an equalizer coming on a through ball in behind the Tech defense and a perfectly slotted finish to the bottom left corner. As the game drew closer to the end, things would get more physical and chippy with multiple yellow cards on display. Then with ten minutes left, Huntington would have a great scoring opportunity with a volley off a corner, but
Cuba Grant would get down to make an incredible save to deny the Foresters the lead. The Warriors would take over control of the last 10 minutes of the game and would search for a late winner.
Emerson Nieto would register a shot on target in the 83rd minute and
Mark Mc Daid hit the post on a free kick with just over four minutes to play but Tech would be unable to break the deadlock before the final whistle blew. Grant made two saves in goal for the Orange & Black.
The tie is Tech's first non-win of the season, however they remain undefeated with a 2-0-1 record. Up next, the Warriors make a trip down south to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a pair of top ten matchups against the #6 University of Mobile (Ala.) on Friday, September 5th and #3 William Carey University (Miss.) on Sunday, September 7th.
