Warriors Go 1-1 in Tri-Match

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team returned to action on Saturday, hosting Madonna University and the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras for a tri-match. The Warriors opened the day with conference foe, Madonna, falling in four sets 22-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 22-25. In their second match of the day, the Warriors would bounce back, winning 3-1 over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras.
 
In the opening match with the Crusaders, the two sides would battle with little to separate them. In the opening set, the two sides would trade blows until the Crusaders shut the door, winning 25-22. Tech bounced back in the second set, leveling the match score with a 25-22 win of their own. In the third set, Madonna got off to a hot start, leading 11-3 in the early goings. Tech would battle back, but the deficit was too much to overcome, falling 20-25. In the fourth set, the two sides matched each other step for step, until the closing points. There, with the score level at 22, the Crusaders would end the set on a 3-0 run to take it 25-22.
 
Lauren Snyder led the Warriors' attack with 12 kills. Hannah Teich led the side in aces with three, while also matching Jacqueline Allaway and Jaycee Strawsma's block tallies with five each. Kristin Matlack dished out 23 assists while Emiline Wood added 13 digs.
 
In the opening set of match two, the Warriors came out firing on all cylinders, grabbing an early lead and not looking back as they would go on to win 25-10. Things flipped in the second set as the visitors grabbed an early lead. After trailing 3-11, the Warriors battled back but ultimately came up short, falling 21-25. Set three was a battle right from the off, with nothing separating the sides. Down the stretch, the Warriors would inch in front, claiming the set 25-22. With momentum from set three, the Warriors came storming out of the gate to start set four, opening the set on a 5-0 run, which featured three straight aces from Kristin Matlack. After the electric start, the Warriors wouldn't slow down as they cruised to a 25-10 win to claim the match.
 
Lauren Paska led the Warriors' offense with 12 kills and posted a team-high 11 digs. Kirstin Matlack posted team highs in service aces and assists with three and 20, respectively. Jacqueline Allaway was a force at the net, posting nine blocks.
 
The Warriors now sit 10-9 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. Up next, the Warriors continue their home stint, hosting Siena Heights on Wednesday, October 1, starting at 7:00 p.m.
