Indiana Tech Sweeps Doubleheader Against No. 6 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Indiana Tech baseball team swept No. 6 Cumberlands in a doubleheader on Friday, taking game one 7-6 and game two 7-5.
 
Indiana Tech scored first in game one. In the top of the second, Keelan Dunkle delivered an RBI single to put the Warriors ahead 1-0.
 
The game remained 1-0 until the fourth when Cumberlands scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
 
In the top of the fifth, an RBI single by Brycen Hannah tied the game at 2-2. With the bases loaded, Derek Ruiz delivered a pinch-hit bases clearing double to put the Warriors ahead 5-2.
 
Cumberlands hit three home runs over the next two innings to take a 6-5 lead.
 
The game remained 6-5 until the ninth. With the tying run on second, Jack Ferguson delivered a full count, two-out two-run home run to put the Warriors ahead 7-6, which would go on to be the final score.
 
Brycen Hannah had a team-high three hits, and Derek Ruiz delivered a game-high three RBI.
 
Noah Redmon got the start, allowing four runs in 4.1 innings while striking out six. Danny May allowed two runs in 1.2 innings of relief. Kaden Plank picked up the win, throwing three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
 
Cumberlands jumped ahead 2-0 in the second game of the doubleheader. That score held until the seventh inning.
 
Indiana Tech made it 2-1 after a run came around to score on a wild pitch. An RBI groundout by Derek Ruiz made it 2-2, and Ben Morrison followed with a two-RBI single to give Indiana Tech a 4-2 lead. A two-run home run by Brycen Hannah made it 6-2, and Garrett Rainey followed with a home run of his own to make it 7-2 in the seventh.
 
Cumberlands hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to make it 7-4. The Patriots added another run in the ninth and brought the winning run to the plate, but Indiana Tech closed the door to secure a 7-5 win and the doubleheader sweep.
 
Ben Morrison had a team-high three hits and two RBI. Brycen Hannah also had two RBI.
 
Austin Byford got the start, allowing two runs in four innings while striking out five. Ben Hammond picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings. Gary Glaser III threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Dean Sommer allowed two runs in 0.2 innings. Colton Leatherman allowed just one run in the ninth to pick up his second save of the year.
 
Indiana Tech moves to 3-2 on the year. The Warriors conclude their series with Cumberlands with a single game on Saturday.
