FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The #6 Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened their season on Saturday afternoon against the three-time defending national champions and #1 ranked Keiser University Seahawks.
Keiser would strike first in the opening minutes of the game, but Tech would answer on a goal from
Ryan Tedesco to even it up at one. The two sides would again trade goals, making it 2-2 midway through the first quarter. The Seahawks would then go on a 4-1 run to end the period up 6-3. The scoring would slow in the second with only five combined goals as Keiser led 9-5 at halftime. The defending champs would jump ahead with three straight goals to open the second half to extend their lead to seven, but the Warriors would start to claw back, matching goals over the rest of the period with five more each. Tech would outscore Keiser in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough for a comeback as the Warriors would fall 15-21 in the end.
Freshman
Torben Aagaard would kick off his Warrior career with a strong performance against the top team in the country, leading the Warriors in points on the day with five, scoring a hattrick and adding two assists.
Cam Fewster would tally four goals for the Orange & Black, while
Ryan Tedesco would finish with two goals and an assist. Tedesco would also add four ground balls and three caused turnovers in an all-around effort from the junior attacker.
Maddox Schwartz had five ground balls for Tech, while
Zach Spisz led the Warrior defense with three caused turnovers.
Sam Park and
Carl Drumgoole would split time in goal for the Warriors, each making their debuts. Park would get the start, making 13 saves in 42:34 minutes, while Drumgoole made five saves in 17:26 minutes of action.
The Warriors start the season at 0-1 and will play Missouri Baptist University in their next game on Friday, February 27
th at 2pm at Warrior Athletic Field.
