FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The two seed Indiana Tech men's basketball team fell to three seed Rochester Christian 75-73 in the WHAC Semifinals on Saturday.
Rochester Christian opened the game hot, jumping out to a 9-2 edge three minutes in. RCU led 21-20 halfway through the first half.
The RCU offense got hot late in the first half as they took a 39-30 lead. RCU led 39-32 at the halftime break.
Rochester Christian extended their lead to 11 at 53-42 five minutes into the second half. RCU led by 12 at 60-48 with 11 minutes left.
The Indiana Tech offense found their groove, cutting the RCU lead to 65-62 with 4:22 left. For every Tech basket, RCU answered, taking a 69-64 lead with 2:42 remaining.
Indiana Tech answered with a quick 4-0 run to cut the lead to one at 69-68 with 1:49 left. A dunk put RCU ahead 73-70 with one minute remaining.
With five seconds remaining,
Logan Beaston was fouled on a three-point attempt and connected on all three free throws to tie the game at 73-73. RCU drew a foul on the ensuing possession and connected on both free throws to take a 75-73 lead.
Indiana Tech had a shot at the buzzer, but it came up short as Rochester Christian secured the 75-73 win.
Jaxson Fugate led Indiana Tech with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Blake Davison had 17 points and seven rebounds.
Eric Hobson had 12 points off the bench, and
Steele Brasfield added 10 points.
Indiana Tech falls to 22-7 on the year. If Madonna wins the WHAC Conference Tournament, Indiana Tech will receive an auto-bid to the NAIA National Tournament due to finishing second in the regular season. If Madonna, loses, the Warriors will wait to see if they get an at-large bid during the NAIA selection show on March 5.
