ATHENS, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech baseball team defeated No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday, their fifth win over a top 10 team this season.
Indiana Tech took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Jorge Santana singled and
Derek Ruiz doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Ben Morrison delivered an RBI groundout, and
Brycen Hannah followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
The game remained 2-0 until the seventh. A run came around to score on an error to give Indiana Tech a 3-0 lead.
Tennessee Wesleyan scored a run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth to send the game at extras tied at 3-3.
An RBI double by
Dane Richards in the top of the tenth put Indiana Tech ahead 4-3. Tennessee Wesleyan had the go-ahead run on base, but Indiana Tech got back-to-back strikeouts to secure the 4-3 win.
Jorge Santana,
Derek Ruiz, and
Jack Ferguson all had two hits apiece. Both Ruiz and
Dane Richards doubled.
Garrett Rainey stole the lone base for Indiana Tech.
Kaden Plank started the game, throwing four scoreless innings.
Kade Robinson followed with 1.2 scoreless innings.
Colton Leatherman threw 2.1 innings in relief.
Noah Redmon picked up the win after an inning of relief, and
Dean Sommer threw a scoreless tenth to pick up the save.
Indiana Tech moves to 10-5 overall and 5-1 against top 10 teams. The Warriors return to action on Wednesday for another contest against Tennessee Wesleyan.
