SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The #8 ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team opened WHAC play on the road Saturday afternoon at rival #10 ranked Lawrence Tech University, where the Warriors picked up a second straight top ten win.
The game would be tight from start to finish in an early season potential conference champion decider. The two sides would trade goals in the first quarter as Tech came out on top 3-2. Lawrence Tech would take a 5-4 lead in the second, but Indiana Tech would end the half with a pair of goals from
Michelle Farrell and one from
Jada Pope in the final minute to regain a 7-5 lead at the break. A pair of
Brook Maul goals and another one from Farrell to open the third quarter gave the Warriors a big 10-5 lead midway through the period. However, LTU would add two late goals to get back within three. Defense would be the story in the fourth quarter as the Warriors tried to protect their lead. Both teams would manage one goal, but the Orange & Black would hold off the Blue Devils 11-8 in a big statement win for the Warriors! Maul (4 G) and Farrell (3 G, 1 A) would lead the Warriors with four points apiece, while Farrell also lead the Warriors in draw controls (6), ground balls (3), and caused turnovers (2).
Lilliana Rivera would help out all around with five draw controls, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and one goal.
Kat Hoff picked up the win in goal for the Warriors, making ten big saves over 60 minutes of action.
The Warriors improve to 2-1 overall and start WHAC play at 1-0. Tech will play another tough matchup in their next contest against #10 ranked Marian University Wednesday, March 18
th at home on Warrior Athletic Field at 4pm.
