FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech baseball team swept Madonna in a doubleheader on Sunday, taking game one 7-6 in seven innings and game two 20-16.
Madonna scored two runs in the top of the first of game one to take a 2-0 lead.
An RBI double by
Garrett Rainey in the bottom of the first made it 2-1. Rainey came around to score on an error to tie the game at 2-2.
Madonna hit a solo home run in the second to take a 3-2 lead. A two-run home run in the fourth made it 5-2.
An RBI single by
Quinn Seefeldt in the bottom of the fourth made it 5-3, but Madonna answered with a run in the fifth to make it 6-3.
An RBI by
Brycen Hannah in the fifth made it 6-4. A two-RBI double by
Dane Richards tied the game at 6-6.
Indiana Tech took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by
Derek Ruiz, which would go on to be the winning run.
Garrett Rainey and
Dane Richards both had two hits. Richards doubled twice, and both Rainey and
Ben Morrison had one double apiece.
Jacoby Roberson stole the lone base for Indiana Tech.
Luke Myers got the start, allowing six runs in five innings while striking out six.
Colton Leatherman got the win, throwing two scoreless innings.
Madonna took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game two. A single and an error in the bottom of the first gave Indiana Tech their first run to make it 2-1.
Madonna scored four runs in the second to take a 6-1 lead. Indiana Tech responded in the bottom of the second on a two-RBI triple by
Ben Morrison to make it 6-3. An RBI single by
Derek Ruiz made it 6-4, and a bases loaded walk to
Brycen Hannah made it 6-5.
Madonna scored two runs in the third to take an 8-5 lead. Indiana Tech answered once more as
Ben Morrison connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to make it 8-7.
Madonna scored two more runs in the fourth to make it 10-7.
Not to be outdone, Indiana Tech continued to answer with offense of their own. In the bottom of the fourth,
Garrett Rainey came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 10-8. A bases loaded walk made it 10-9, and an RBI single by
Quinn Seefeldt tied the game at 10-10. An RBI groundout by
Keelan Dunkle gave Indiana Tech an 11-10 lead. An RBI double by
Derek Ruiz made it 12-10, and a two-RBI single by
Garrett Rainey put Tech ahead 14-10. Back-to-back home runs by
Jack Ferguson and
Brycen Hannah gave Indiana Tech a 17-10 lead.
Madonna scored five more runs in the fifth to make it 17-15. A solo home run by
Jack Ferguson in the sixth gave Indiana Tech an 18-15 lead.
Madonna made it 18-16, but a two-RBI single by
Keelan Dunkle gave Indiana Tech a 20-16 lead, which would be the final score.
Garrett Rainey led Indiana Tech with four hits.
Ben Morrison had a team-high four RBI.
Derek Ruiz doubled, and both
Ben Morrison and
Keelan Dunkle tripled.
Jack Ferguson homered twice, and both
Ben Morrison and
Brycen Hannah had a homer apiece.
Andrew VanOeveren got the start, throwing 1.1 innings. Both
Gary Glaser III and
Kail Baughman threw 1.1 innings in relief.
Kade Robinson followed with 0.2 innings in relief.
Dean Sommer got the win, allowing just one run in 4.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Indiana Tech moves to 18-11 overall and 8-4 in WHAC play. The Warriors return to action on Wednesday at Indiana Wesleyan.
