DAVENPORT, Iowa – The #6 Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team started spring break with a trip out west to Iowa where they would take on #7 William Penn University on Saturday and (RV) Saint Ambrose University on Sunday. The Warriors would head home with a 1-1 record on the weekend after two tight one-goal games, falling 12-13 at William Penn and winning 12-11 at Saint Ambrose.
Against the #7 ranked Statesmen, Tech would be at a deficit early going down 0-4 and 1-6 in the first quarter. The Warriors would score two late goals in the period and win the second 3-1 to bring the score back within one as they trailed 6-7 at halftime. Both sides would take the lead in a back and forth third quarter, where the Orange & Black would end up on top 11-10. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors would score first to go up 12-10 but would be shutout over the final 14 minutes of the game. William Penn would score just three goals in the quarter with third coming with just over two minutes left but it was just enough to take the win away from the Warriors by a final of 12-13.
Reice Hafl and
Cam Fewster both had three points to lead the Warriors on offense, while
Torben Aagaard and
Zach Spisz each had two caused turnovers to lead the defensive effort.
Maddox Schwartz had a team high six ground balls.
Sam Park made the start in goal, playing all 60 minutes and making 12 saves.
On Sunday, the Warriors bounced back winning another one-goal thriller against the Fighting Bees.
Jake Deacon and
Torben Aagaard would get the Warriors on the board first to take a 2-0 lead before a big 8-1 run by the Bees put them up five. Tech then went on a 3-0 run to end the half and cut the deficit back to two. The Warriors would win the third quarter 3-2, making it a one goal game heading into the fourth where
Ryan Tedesco would tie it up at the eleven-minute mark. A pair of goals from
Cam Fewster and
Ryan Morgan 30 seconds apart in the final three minutes gave Tech a two-goal lead to ice it. Saint Ambrose scored in the final seconds, but Tech would hold on to the 12-11 victory. Deacon and Morgan both had hattricks, while Deacon and Fewster led the team with four points each. Tedesco had a huge eight ground balls, while
Zach Spisz had five.
Ryan Calloway, Khuisttin Corpas, and Fewster each had two caused turnovers.
Carl Drumgoole picked up the win in goal for the Warriors, making 11 saves.
The Warriors now sit at 2-2 overall and will start conference action next when they play at #8 Taylor University on Saturday, March 14
th at 1pm in Upland, Indiana.
